John Brown is not a newcomer to the world of Jazz. This North Carolina native is the Director of the Jazz program at Duke University, worked with vocalist Nnenna Freelon on her Grammy nominated release Shaking Free. He also worked with Elvin Jones and Wynton Marsalis.

Brown sophomore album Dancing with Duke, is an homage to one of the true legends of jazz Duke Ellington. All compositions are by Duke except Billy Strayhorn "A flower is a lonesome thing" and Juan Tizol "Perdido". John Brown bass and Cryrus Chestnut piano flawlessly dialogue over Adonis Rose rhythms on drums on powerful interpretations of classics like "In a mellow tone", "Do nothin till you hear from me", "It don't mean a thing (If it ain't got that swing)" and the latin tinged arrangement of Tizol "Perdido". This is the true definition of a powerful trio.

For the second part of the album, these musicians prove they can be equally good playing ballads, "A flower is a lonesome thing", "I got it bad and that ain't good" and "Solitude".
