Music began for Allison when she was an infant. Allison Cherise states; “I remember lying in my bed next to the window in an upstairs bedroom of our home in Detroit, MI. It was a nice warm sunny day and the window was open letting in a warm breeze along with the sunshine. I heard vocal harmony coming from outside. I recognized one voice which was my fathers. Those voices were so Heavenly to me and I just laid there listening for such a wonderfully long time. At least it seemed that way to me. This was my first exposure to music.”
From the beginning, Allison’s favorite music is a cappella vocals. A few of her favorite groups are “Take 6” and “Pentatonix” because of their vocal harmonies. Allison Cherise and her singing and songwriting include harmonies, which bring out the interaction between the lead and the background vocals. It is a uniquely dynamic style that makes the songs full and rich in sound.
Allison Cherise use to go with her father who was a jazz/scat singer in and around Michigan. She was only 11 years old when she would follow him to clubs and venues where he would perform. They accepted the fact that Allison was with her dad, and she was allowed to sing every once in a while. Her favorite songs to sing were; “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “When Sonny Get’s Blue”.
When Allison was 15, her grandmother gave her an Alvarez Classical Guitar. At that time, she learned the basic chords, well enough to accompany herself on simple songs. She was now able to find friends with whom she could play with. This was the birth of Allison Cherise the solo artist.
Allison Cherise started joining in on musical shows in school. Talent shows, musical productions, choir, and more which continued all through grade school and high school. After high school, she started playing gigs with other artists. Allison learned a lot about music and especially about how different artists contribute to music to create a unique experience.
Allison Cherise won her area in a program called the “Delta Idol”, held at Delta Airlines which is where she worked at the time, at Hartsfield International Airport in Atlanta. The program was for the “United Way” and in order to raise money, each area of the airport; gates, ticketing, concourse ramps, flight attendants, corporate offices, reservations, and more, were invited to choose a representative to audition and win the title of “Delta Idol” (named after American idol). After competing and winning her area and being chosen to represent baggage service, Allison went all the way to the Semi-Finals.
Music is ever growing and changing for Allison Cherise and “Time For Your Dreams” is her debut studio recording with Big Fuss Records.
