After languishing for almost 10 years, unadvertised and only very briefly heard on digital media, this Jacquie Young Band album is taking a new breath.
Recorded only 2 months after the death of her beloved mother, Jacquie used the recording experience as a way to sing through the pain of losing the woman who was her best friend. The strength of this album comes from a depth of emotion felt when life and love don't always make sense, as well as an eternal gratitude for simple things.
Recorded at Brickhouse studios in Brighton, the album took just short of a week to complete. It was the culmination of 18 months song writing collaboration between Jacquie Young and Tony Willcox, all much aided during this time by the creative keyboard skills of Fraser Wigg. There had been many changes made to the songs over that period, but the recording was the crystallisation of months of trial and error. Even in the studio, the track, Keeping it All for You, changed from an upbeat, fast moving song to one of intense, slow, melodic atmosphere.
Guitarist Graham Cleveland had only been with the band for 3 weeks at that time. He brought a new dimension to the tracks with his naturally bluesy, fender based style. Long term friendships were made during this time, as Graham found a musical chemistry with drummer Ivan Pledge (which remains today in Worthing based band CPR) as well as him bringing new love into Jacquie’s life.
Finally releasing this album into the wider world, signals a final growing up for Jacquie, and a decision that if not now, then when? A time perhaps that we all face when we hopefully can realise that perfection is in fact an illusion. So although this group of songs was never released officially as an album, due to its shortage in track numbers, each individual track belongs together. It is a picture of how, when people come together with energy to create, then even if they are briefly in the same orbit, it is possible to make something really beautiful and lasting.
