"Steve Thomas . . . writes innovative, eclectic jazz pieces that embrace witty wordplay and world music influences, and he scats great, too." --pianist/producer Mark Shilansky

Steve Thomas & REAL INCOGNITO are: Steve Thomas (vocals/compositions), John Funkhouser (electric keys), Greg Loughman (electric bass), Mike Connors (drums/percussion/occasional glockenspiel). We're recovering jazzbos who've mutated into a rock band despite our best intentions, all in the service of Steve's left-field compositions. Drummer Mike describes us as "a fancy indie rock band with jazzy and R&B touches." Close enough. Some addictions: Balkan and Moroccan odd meters, '60s' soul, vintage reggae and ska, Paul Motian's bands. Need a soundbite? How about this:

The Stones and Bob Marley in a funky Bentley, some Muscle Shoals soul cats in a dusty T-Bird convertible, the uberhip Steely Dans in a vintage Peugeot, and Max and Mingus in a Morris Minor all collide at the corner of Groove and Mystery. Surprisingly, there are no injuries. Turns out everyone gets along just fine. Voila! ----------------> Steve Thomas & REAL INCOGNITO . . . at your service.
