Born in Minnesota and raised in the Midwest and Montana, alt-country songstress Andrea Peterman is now calling Seattle home, teaming up with a collection of that city’s finest musicians. Backing Peterman on her 10-track sophomore album ‘Faster Than the Days’ is Justin S. Davis (guitar), who also produced the album and co-wrote three tracks, Robert Lee Mitchell (keyboards, bass), Travis Yost (drums), and Keith Lowe (bass).
The one-time New York actress and former church choir sing has a voice which commands your attention due to her powerful and soulful delivery. Part Janis Joplin, part Merry Clayton, and a little bit Dolly Parton, Peterman’s voice soars on tracks such as “Highway,” “Lord Have Mercy” and “Sister’s Crying,” the strongest track on this release.
With Peterman handling acoustic guitar and her voice pushed up front in the recording (as it should be), she is backed by a mix of standard instrumentation along with splashes of fiddle playing, a Hammond B3 and a pedal steel to give these songs a layered texture. But it’s Peterman’s stories, some personal and some fiction, which hold your attention. With her nomad lifestyle, she has a lot of palettes to choose from, and does a fine job painting a picture for the listener to admire.
