"People Are Talking" captures those moments in my life when I have become keenly aware of relationships and journeys of my heart. There's that venerability that keeps fans coming back and wanting more...that yearning, that learning, and that loving...that I love share because I have to.
In this CD I come close, singing from a deep well of knowing, and rivers of wondering about 'why' any of us experience love, despite all odds. There's humor, wisdom, reverence on the track "Hush-A-Bye" .
I was profoundly touched by 15 year old Molly Conley was gunned down by a complete stranger here in Washington State as she waited in the park with friends to celebrate her 16th birthday. I could barely sing as I recorded this...I also was mourning the 43 who lost their lives when the city of OSO collapsed because of torrential rains... a whole neighborhood was gone in seconds. There was so much stillness in the could hear my heart beat. And in that profound quiet, Gregory Smith moved right into "I Loves You a Porgy" with a tenderness that made my heart soar.
"Would you believe" kicks off this Album the way women do...we tell stories, we convince ourselves...and sometimes we laugh, and sometimes we cry...but we're resilient. Working with the Veteran and gifted Pianist Darin Clendenin & Bassist Clipper Anderson was a complete joy! Susan Oascal on the Vibes was added that extra punch! All three of them have styles of pure Artistry and perfection! They made the process a furiously fun journey! It would have been hard for me to trust (Fly Me To The Moon, Autumn In New York) these Great American Standards to anyone else.
For added flavor I asked two Brilliant Horn players to join me, Darren Motamady on flute on Van Morrison "Moon Dance" and Alexey Nikolaev Tenor Saxophone on "People are Talking" the two of them just makes you want to dance, and hold that special someone close.
Chicken Biscuits and Gravy, is a tribute to my mama's cooking...and you'll smile, and if not laugh out loud!
Lastly, My co- Writer & second Pianist on this project, Gregory Smith- Graduate from Cornish Institute.. collaborated with me in writing "Touching The Sky" it captures and explores the many layers of loving, from a position of strength, as well as passion....we hope you enjoy it as much as we loved writing it.
