Reviews from RateYourMusic:
At heart a blues band, though I wouldn't call the 'psychedelic' tag misplaced. Sharp and well rehearsed. Their singer truly got something special going on. Something devestated. Listen to her wail like a fifth instrument in 'In My Time of Dying.' One might find the selection of blues songs a little generic, but this is decidedly good stuff. Highlights are 'Underground River' (alright now, she screams), 'In My Time Of Dying', 'Lazarus' and 'Billy Gene.' May be I give this a 3.5 later on.

Surprisingly raw blues rock blaster with a true underground-sound. Lotsa room for lengthy guitar jams. Shrieking guitars and droning fuzzbass even recall that primitive VU atmosphere, i.e. 'In My Time Of Dying.' For an album on a major label it sure is a crude recording, definitely sounding like a stoned jam since all tracks run into another. The B-side opens with a solid rendition of 'The Letter' of good ole Box Tops fame, and – don't tell any further – 'Mossy Dream' is a minor psych masterpiece. Kool femvox for a worthwile sixties classic !

Blues driven rock, with a decidedly hard sound, full of fuzz guitar. But personally, I find McElwaine has a lousy style of singing, and that she detracts from the overall appeal of this otherwise very good album.
