One of the most renowned and influential voices of our time, iconic American writer, poet, actor, dancer, director, composer and lecturer Dr. Maya Angelou, will posthumously release Caged Bird Songs on November 4th via Smooch Music. Caged Bird Songs, produced by RoccStar (whose production credits include Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Hudson and CeeLo Green) and Shawn Rivera (the lead singer of Az Yet, the R&B vocal pop group formerly on La Face/Arista Records) in Los Angeles and at Angelou's North Carolina home, is a unique musical collaboration which thoughtfully blends the lyrics and recorded vocal performances of Dr. Angelou with modern day hip-hop, creating an exciting new work and presenting her words in a way they ve never been heard before.

Dr. Maya Angelou famously was an author, poet, professor, and American icon before her death in 2014. But she also released a calypso album in 1957 and wrote songs with Quincy Jones, Roberta Flack, and others. Here, producers RoccStar and Shawn Rivera (who’ve recently worked with Jennifer Lopez and Chris Brown) take readings that Angelou recorded over the years and put new hip-hop beats and sounds behind them. Angelou was always a dynamic speaker; her proto-rap/sing-speak style makes for a natural combination with the modern production. The recurring themes of hope and equality leave no question as to whom you're listening to.
