Singer-Songwriter John Fritzsching had started booking acoustic shows trying to showcase his own soulful sound to the local Houston music scene. Wanting to pursue his passion to expand his sound, John asked, Scott Byer (bassist/singer/writer), to come and add his talents to this fast moving genre. Both artists knew there was a sound that people needed to hear and with that, a drummer was needed. Sloan Gatlin has worked with all genres across the board, and with his addition to the group, these home grown artist brought TX Special to Houston.

Each member brought their unique sounds, pulling influences from gulf coast blues, rock, country and folk; mixing this amazing concoction into a rare sound. But their sound is only match by their energy on stage and their love for music. Every show they play, there is always a wave moving over the crowd, bringing couples, friends, and a random bar patron touting a beer to the stage. Strings stir, cymbals crash and voices are sent over the crowd from TX Special, leaving their musical print on your mind and ears.

But like all bands, this trio didn’t come together easy. With their first premier show at Jet Lounge, a downtown club, the band was less than ready. With Scott already set to prior commitments, missing band practice and Sloan only getting a few hours of practice, the stress and pressure was on the bands shoulders. What walked on that stage was three guys with love for music, and talent to showcase. And as soon as the first notes were struck, everyone in the crowd knew, TX Special is the next sound.
