Recorded in the first months of 2015, 'See What You Done', the first album from Poplar Jake & The Electric Delta Review, saw the band capitalizing on the success of their single 'No More Signifyin''. Jake's songs, loaded with a knowing sarcasm and dry wit, sit happily in the traditional blues format but have an individual stamp you just won't find anywhere else. The enthusiasm and commitment of all four musicians is also readily apparent - these guys are serious about what they are doing but are clearly enjoying doing it. This isn't your standard Brit-blues-by-numbers; the EDR appear to be well versed in all facets of the blues tradition, from the country jaunt of the opening "Blues, See What You Done", the jazz-inflected "Lammas", the Chicago style shuffle of "Blink And You Miss It" to the epic quality of Wolf's "Back Door Man" and their own "I Was A Fool". The musicianship on here is first rate; highlights include the John Lee Williamson-influenced harp on "Blink...", the molten slide guitar on "Fool" and the spongy walking bass on "Lammas", while drummer Dave Sims is on terrific form throughout the whole recording, proving it really don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing.
