Protected By Voodoo captures some of the spirit of Iko-Iko with great performances and special guests (Nicole Yarling from Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefers; Ilker Gostaminza; The All-You-Can-Eat Horns; and others) as well as radio songs like "Celebration" and the wildly popular MP3, "Bag Me, Tag Me (Take Me Away) which has seen thousands of downloads. The breakout CD for this great band.

"Imposing presence and offbeat, down-and-dirty blues hooks define Iko's sound.Voodoo band [Iko-Iko] is on a roll..." -- Billboard Magazine

Iko-Iko frontman Graham Drout's blues-flavored rock songs can transport you to a strange and mystical world, or at least to a hidden corner of the tricounty area. Take the ambling and pastoral "Miller's Woods," for instance: "In Miller's woods my spirits dwell/Like a silver dollar/Down a wishing well/In Miller's woods, let my spirits soar/'Cause they know that I've been there before." Then there's the slow and haunting "Walk with the Zombie," on which he sings, "Cat daddy's a loup garou/One of those who do the Voodoo/He walks like a wolf/When the moon's as red as rust/He gets cross-eyed and crazy/Like the rest of us/When he walks with the zombie/Through the streets of the city/He'll find no pity/On the streets of the city." Drout's songs are drenched in dues-paying experience and bubble up as if out of Miami's tropical melting pot: "I was high on revelations/Drinking strychnine from a jar/I had a python 'round my shoulder/Longer than a Cadillac car." -- Miami New Times/Best of '98

Careful here the name makes you think zydeco, but its not that at all. A slight touch of NAwlins sound is almost undetectable in this collection of moody pieces accentuated by Graham Wood Drouts smoky vocals.
