When things started falling apart for Klymaxx, lead singers Joyce "Fenderella" Irby and Bernadette Cooper launched solo careers. Cooper's got off to a decent start with Drama According to Bernadette Cooper, a generally enjoyable, though not breathtaking, CD greatly influenced by Prince, the Time and the Minneapolis school of soul and funk. Though nothing here is in a class with Klymaxx hits like "The Men All Pause" and "Meeting in the Ladies Room," Cooper brings a healthy sense of humor and a fun, playful spirit to such Minneapolis-inspired synth-funk as "The Agency Sent Me," "I Look Good," and "The Howard Hughes Sitcom." Possibly, the fact that Cooper, like Fenderella, hasn't been more visible as a solo artist is due to the fickle nature and short attention span of the urban contemporary audience.
