A native of Perth, Scotland, located on the banks of the River Tay, Brendan’s love for traditional country comes as naturally to him as his vocal talent—both of which were cultivated before he was only three years old. His musical journey started when his granny Peeps drove him home one day and played him Hank Williams’ 1949 song “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry.” When Brendan arrived home George noticed that Brendan was looking sad, so George asked him what was wrong. Brendan replied “I feel the same because I’m not allowed out to play and I have no friends.” George phoned Peeps to ask if Brendan was sad and she told him he was, after hearing the song. Peeps went to the store and bought a disc player for Brendan to listen to the song. Brendan was so touched by the song that he memorized it line by line, and quickly mastered it with the aid of his dad, who played the guitar. “I noticed he was pitch perfect,” says his father, “so I changed the key, and he sang it perfectly again. I played in three or four different keys and he sang in tune every time. I couldn’t believe it.” Brendan then began singing the song, and other classic tunes with his dad at numerous family occasions.

Brendan became a musical sponge, and quickly developed an affinity for many genres, choosing to incorporate elements of country, gospel and bluegrass into first album. When he was 10, he urged his father to let him go into the studio to record, and ultimately, to create music videos that were subsequently posted on YouTube including “I Got A Woman,” “Bring It On Home To Me” and “Lost on the River,” which became internet sensations.

Over the last few years, Brendan has been performing at venues around Perthshire, ranging from small pubs to popular festival events. No matter the setting, Brendan always leaves audiences in awe, demanding encores. “Every song comes from somewhere,” Brendan says, “but I think an artist or songwriter shouldn’t over-explain it. It’s more interesting when you put it out there, let people hear it and allow them to have their own interpretation".

He continues, “I’ve sung a lot of different styles of music but I’ve always been more comfortable singing this rootsier stuff, the gospel and bluegrass—a very American style which originally came from Scotland. I’m learning my way around the keyboards, but at heart I’m a singer and guitarist and I really just love playing my music for people
