"The White Ape Pixel" was their best album, combining all the positives of their previous albums. With the "Black", they still outperform, giving us not only a summary of what they do best, but what is more improved version.
More rock, less electro
If there was an obvious point that distinguishes this album from others, is that it is much more assertive in the rock'n'roll side, which is not only more highlighted than ever, but also highly developed in the genre. The solenoid is less present. But eclecticism is still there!
With the title "Yell", they certainly made one of their most hard rock songs - in the image of "Blacklisted" in the last. More generally, "The Black Pixel Ape" is a good dose of supercharged rock and ignited while in power and energy, but not too much either.
Anyway, it said more rock side, we feel particularly through furious riffs, more present than in their recent albums. Songs like "Happy Ape Rodeo", "Frag Dog" or "The Way Out" and are embellished with genuine chord sequences, in which the guitarist enjoy themselves as much as the whole group.
Frah and Sam, the two singers are outbid on this instrumental in giving him life, and delirium. The composition of the songs is about her perfectly controlled, very savvy. "The Black Pixel Ape" is a harder album in its musicality, and also more mature. Influences such as AC / DC, Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Co. will be felt.
Still catchy and crazy
There is no title as 100% rock. He endures some walks, more soft, where we are simply swept away by an obsessive melody that embeds in a few seconds. They are pretty in electro sounds.
"The shell maid freak" is in this vein, in instruments, a small air compound repetitive synth, plus they entail. In the genre, there are also "Mocks The Party" (which vaguely remind Die Antwoord), a rather strange eclectic style, which manages to be simple but festive. Both titles have the ability to produce a beautiful aesthetic, captivating.
"Time has come" is the third song to be in this spirit, but with more reggae tones. In this respect, the instrumental is particularly linear, and it is the modulation of the vocals that are catchy as in perfect harmony pleasant to listen to. We embarked again.
The Shaka Ponk, they make the supercharged rock or folk rides more like the latter, they have a feature that will always return: be catchy and crazy. What they produce, they still have that ability - whether in the instrument, the riffs, the vocal melody general - to embark on their musical madness.
"The Black Pixel Ape", despite a hardened hand, does not cut the features that have forged the group. A bit like "The White Ape Pixel" above, this is a mix of what they do best since "Loco Con Da Frenchy Talkin '.
A strong musical identity
Today there is no doubt about the unique style of Shaka Ponk. Within seconds you can recognize, and in seconds they take us on a musical maelstrom of rock, electro and delusions.
They go in all directions, they explode and then, we're also having fun in the play, and even to see them in their videos or on stage. But it should be noted that they are also outstanding musicians, with a touch of undeniable quality.
The last piece of the album, "Morir Cantando" is a rock cover of "Mourir sur scène" Dalida. This title may be the ultimate demonstration of talent "Shaka" is the title given to their sauce beautifully. It is also one of the most musically constructed songs, and more efficient. In short, it is the pearl of "The Black Pixel Ape."
Nothing to change the habits, all these titles are once again perfectly tailored to the scene, and have this incredible ability to transmit as much energy as in a good mood to the listener.
Perhaps it is then up to say thank you to Shaka Ponk, likely to be the best French rock band of the moment, but also for the artistic generosity, resulting in albums increasingly good over time.
"The Black Pixel Ape" the fastest album, which is always rock, and even more crazy. To our delight.
