John Davis first came to people’s attention via his many early productions and arrangements out of Philadelphia for acts like William DeVaughn, Tapestry, Carol Douglas, Philly Devotions, the Three Degrees, Spice, Touch of Class and numerous others. It was only a matter of time before he would be approached to lead a project of his own and that opportunity came when Sam Weiss from Sam Records offered him a solo deal. Since John’s biggest successes had come with Disco records, the first project was a Disco-friendly album of mainly Cole Porter covers – “Night And Day” which he recorded with the cream of the Philadelphia musicians like Bobby Eli, Larry Washington, the Don Renaldo Strings and the Sweethearts Of Sigma - Barbara Ingram, Carla Benson and Evette Benton. The standout track from the project turned out to be the pulsating John Davis/Craig Snyder penned “I Can’t Stop” which prompted label owner Sam Weiss to encourage John to cut his own material on the next album – “Up Jumped The Devil”. This resulted in a huge Disco smash with his self-penned title track “Up Jumped The Devil” and the equally popular, “The Magic Is You”. Disco Recharge has completely re-mastered and combined the two above albums including bonus 12” and 7” edits of the key releases from both albums into another stunning 2 x CD Disco Recharge release with extensive sleeve notes courtesy of Disco Recharge regular Alan Jones. Another essential Disco Recharge release which accurately covers two more key releases in the history of Disco Music!
