With their third studio album "White Horse," the Oly Mountain Boys have set out to do something unprecedented: a concept album that tells a life story from beginning to end through original bluegrass. The album honors tradition by centering its story in Washington's frontier past, while looking to the future of bluegrass music with fresh, original songwriting.

White Horse tells the life story of a fictional historical character, Charlie McCarver, who lived in early 20th century Washington State. It begins with his happiness in youth with wife Lisa-Ann and their children. When his marriage unravels and his family leaves him, the songs chronicle Charlie's psychological crack, descent into violence, and life on the run. The album closes with songs that explore Charlie's memories, regrets, and confrontation with aging and death.

To further enrich the story and the character, the music is supplemented by a full-color 68-page booklet containing lyrics, writing, historical photos, and original art from a dozen contributors. The result unifies music with other art forms, and weaves it into a picture of Washington history. Nothing quite like it has ever been done in the bluegrass world before.

"As original and innovative as they are, The Oly Mountain Boys’ sound still gives you that down-home feeling, only this time, it’s about a home in the Northwest." - Candace Brown, Good Life Northwest
