Shane Barnhill doesn’t remember a time when music wasn’t present in his life. He grew up listening to his dad, who wrote songs and played guitar, and picked up a guitar himself at the age of nine. His first gig was at the Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo when he was 14. Shane's love for the stage was instantaneous and, to this day, remains his obvious calling. The dedication and perseverance it takes to be a musician not only show in his music, but also in his work ethic as a paramedic/firefighter.
“The Fire service has shaped me into who I am today,” said Barnhill. “It inspires the way I live and allows me to appreciate that every day is a gift. I also try to teach my kids about the meaning of brotherhood and others being able to count on you. That’s what carries over into the music and being part of a band.”
With a style he has termed, “Jukebox Music,” Shane listened to a variety of artists as he grew up writing his first song, “Shattered Pieces,” as a teenager. Calling on all of the accumulated life experiences to bring him to where his now, his love of songwriting and varied influences have carried over into the 10 songs on his soon to be released album, COUNTRY LOVIN’.
“I mostly write about the everyday scenarios of life and relationships that leave an impression in your heart,” states Barnhill. “I want you to hear the song and say, ‘yeah, I’ve been through that or I know someone that has.’ At the end of my life the songs I have recorded will still be around hopefully the people who hear them will realize they are not alone in a situation they are going through.”
With this album, his third full length effort, Shane knows the music has to be steps above. Bringing in Jason Rooks and Bobby Terry as producers, COUNTRY LOVIN’ is a solid collection of cuts that are sure to make an impact. Terry, who has played for artist such as Toby Keith, Willie Nelson, Jamey Johnson, Alan Jackson, Trace Adkins and more, contributed significantly to the project as guitar player and session leader as well.
“Jason has an amazing ear and Bobby Terry was an easy pick as a native Texan from Spring,” Barnhill claimed. “After hearing the songs Jason and Bobby wrote, I knew I had something that wasn’t being put out by most artists. The songs I chose had meaning and substance. As I am getting older, with kids of my own, I want to record songs that mean something and aren’t just bubble-gum, good time songs.”
Barnhill recorded his first album, JUST GETTIN’ STARTED, in 2007 at Houston's famed Sugar Hill Recording Studio. As his popularity and reputation grew, Barnhill had the opportunity to play at such high exposure events as the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and the Pasadena Rodeo & Cook Off. OUTLAW ANGELS AND HILL COUNTRY NIGHTS followed in 2011 and Barnhill released three singles to Texas Radio with much success: “Still Sexy To Me,” (written by Barnhill/ Mike Oder Sr.) stayed on the Texas Regional Radio Report (T3R) for 27 weeks, spent four weeks at # 1 on Radio Free Texas (RFT) and was also a #1 on Big star 97, a feat that resulted in a nomination for Best New Artist for the station’s awards show. His self penned song “Two Lovers in the Night” was #1 on RFT for 4 weeks and “Turn It Up” was on the T3R for 16 weeks.
Barnhill, who performs often and has opened for Deryl Dodd, Wade Bowen, Charlie Robison, Todd Fritsch, Gene Watson, Cory Morrow, Daryl Singletary, Kyle Park and Roger Creager, wants to make sure each and every person at his shows leaves with something.
“It’s important to me that I reach the fans as way of saying, ‘thank you for the support,’” he stated. “Not everybody realizes the dedication and time it takes to be a successful artist but it’s important for us, as artists, to realize we wouldn’t be doing it if no one listened. We aim to make each show better than the last and hope that the fans leave thinking about the great time out they just had rather than the stresses of everyday life. That’s what it’s all about after all, living life to the fullest and loving country music.”
Shane Barnhill can be booked for acoustic and/or band performances:
