The following is not about this album and we're not even sure if this is the correct artist described here. It's the only info we could find about Marsha Raven.

DO YOU fancy a crash course in the blues? Marsha Raven gives one in Blues Angels (The Dream Tent on the Meadows, August 17 to September 5). When this lady sings the blues you feel it all the way back to your grandparents. The show is a musical journey spanning 90 years, highlighting women's role in the history of blues, which covers a musical spectrum from spirituals to rap.

The first ladies of blues and soul are all drawn upon, with songs made famous by such as Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, The Supremes, Tina Turner, Gloria Gaynor, Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer, Sade and Tracey Chapman, all women who broke with various traditions and changed the face of jazz, blues, gospel, soul and even disco, the music that ate the world.

Marsha Raven is a serious wailer and she tells it like she means it. She gives life to each of the performers with jokes and juicy bits from their various raffish lifestyles -- as well as singing their songs with love. She hails from Detroit and is the third generation of a musical family, with an uncle who played with Duke Ellington and a cousin who was with Jeff Beck.

She sang in Richie Havens's show Electric God in New York City and has paid her dues around Britain with groups like The Blues Band, Shakatak and Bronski Beat, among others. She's also had solo hits on the Euro-Beat charts.
