Mariénne Kreitlow is a songwriter, composer, performer, poet and playwright. A long time solo artist, she has released nine albums of original music to positive acclaim: “An Unassuming Gem” -Boston Globe, “Joyfully Sensuous” -Dirty Linen, “Beguiling” -Minneapolis City Pages. Mariénne enjoys juggling genres, so her writings and renditions range from contemporary folk to art song to inspirational to blues and Broadway.
This Minnesota native received a BA in Religious Studies from the University of Minnesota and lived in California and Massachusetts where she spent several years performing as a street and club musician. After marrying and moving to Texas in 1990 she discovered her passion for theatre where her husband was technical director and designer for Theatre San Jacinto. This kindled new works and rewarding collaborations with other artists in theatre, music, dance, and the visual arts.
Since then Mariénne has written scripts and scores for several musicals, including the 2011 world premiere of “The Brothers Grimm: A Musical Adventure” produced by Great River Educational Arts Theatre in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Two previous musicals, both set in the midwest, include “Earl Tracy”, an award winning entry in the American College Theatre Festival, and “Excelsius”, which awaits production.
As a roster teaching artist through the Central Minnesota Arts Board, Mariénne brings passion and skill into the classroom, encouraging others to activate and voice their creativity. She enjoys sharing her music in a wide variety of venues and thrives on artistic collaborations. Mariénne recently received an ‘Award of Distinction’ from the Longfellow Chorus in Portland, Maine.
Self titled “Keeper of Hearth & Home” on her fourth generation family farm near Howard Lake, Mariénne’s compositions often reflect a strong sense of place and commitment to honoring the land, as can also be seen on her blog where she posts original poetry and her photos of Living Song Farm.
"My intent as an artist is to open myself and my audience through authentic expression. My responsibility is to create an experience that reaches through many levels of feeling and visioning to ultimately uplift and transform. I aim to inspire and encourage expression in others as a means of accessing passion, personal and spiritual fulfilment, and meaningful community."
