There’s something about the bone-brittle winters and skin-melting summers of Iowa that breeds a rugged truth in a songwriter. From the middle of America, Johnnie Cluney’s moniker, Bedroom Shrine, brings us a full-length debut.
Bedroom Shrine began when Cluney and drummer Dennis Hockaday left their former project, Mondo Drag. Singing and playing their own brand of lonesome rock and roll, Cluney (guitar), Hockaday (drums, synthesizer), Bambi Suits (rhythm guitar), and Aiden Landman (bass) got together every Tuesday for a year at the Horseshack – the famed Daytrotter recording studio in Rock Island, Illinois – to carve out the tracks of No Déjà vu.

These are songs of love, truth, and revenge. A result of life’s many moods. They were penned out during a time of reflection and loss (Cluney’s father passed away in 2012). These songs are an example of the wars of life and our place in it.
