VA - Flash Your Lights: Music of Electrifying Mojo (2011)

What has happened to the motor city post riots of 1967, a city which originally was designed for 4 million where only 1 million nowadays remain, where something unique and extraordinary has occurred instead of what every other city has, Detroit has space and it's not just empty space full of the artifacts of the American industrial revolution but a place like no other where its provides food for peoples imagination. Forever in the hearts and minds of the people of Detroit, The Electrifying Mojo broadcasted his radio shows on a nightly basis from the late 70's and throughout the 80's inspiring

Jeez, Includes Ron Hardy edit of Prince 'Traffic Jam' - honestly!** Ohhh... 'Flash Your Lights' is a vital collection of edits and original tracks deployed from the mothership of legendary Detroit radio jock, Electrifying Mojo. Quite simply, this guy was the biggest influence on Detroit's music scene of the '80s, bar none (well maybe the Roland corporation are a close 2nd). His Midnight Funk Association shows on WJLB broadcast the widest mix of up-to-date electronic music from YMO to Philip Glass and Depeche Mode, sandwiched between Funk, Soul and Disco music, and would give the likes of Juan Atkins, Jeff Mills (aka The Wizard in those days) and Derrick May their first plays on radio, besides an invaluable, foundational lesson in all that's right and good, musically speaking. The collection includes (besides others), a dynamite Ron Hardy edit of Prince's 'Traffic Jam', Capricorn 'I Need love' (instrumental mix), 'B52's 'Planet Claire', A Number Of Names 'Skitso' re-edit, Fiona Franklyn 'Busted Up On Love', and Flying Lizards' 'Steam Away'. Just unmissable, really.
