Lynwood Slim was born in Los Angeles, California in 1953, as Richard Duran. He started playing the trumpet at age 12 and later harmonica when he was 15. His early influences include Jimmy Reed, Little Walter and Big Walter Horton. He played the Los Angeles music scene then moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1977 and to Amsterdam, Holland in 1988, returned to Los Angeles later that same year. He started working with Junior Watson, as well as Hollywood Fats Band alumni Larry Taylor, Fred Kaplan and Richard Innes. He became a major force on the music scene, winning awards for best blues band in 1986.

This disc would be unremarkable if not for the guitar work of Junior Watson and the producing credits of Canned Heat bassist Larry Taylor. While the mix of blues and rockabilly is fun, there is an overall sense of restraint that keeps things from really taking off. It's odd that the combination of talents assembled here sounds more like a tired bar band than a posse of blues legends.
