Starting out as Leroy’s Layabouts in Sydney’s inner west, from the mid 1970s till the late 1980s, The Layabouts became an institution around the pubs, wine bars and campuses of Sydney.

This is the band that first introduced Sydney to the exciting pre-rock’n’roll sax-based music known as ‘Jump Blues’, along with various other mostly black American music forms, all interpreted with jazz and rock sensibilities and a big dose of gratuitous devilment. They were one of the city’s most popular bands in the 1970s-80s, with several records that received high critical acclaim, a handful of television appearances and supports for touring American blues stars - and an enduring influence on many other bands. After a lengthy hiatus, they are back. Their new album, “Smokin’” will be released in May 2014.
