b. 18 December 1947, Riverside, California, USA. Piazza heard the R&B records his brothers bought in the 50s and formed a blues band when he was around 16 years old. He became friendly with George Smith, a huge influence on his vocals and harmonica playing. Piazza made two albums with the Dirty Blues Band for ABC/Bluesway, and in the late 60s formed Bacon Fat, who made two albums for Blue Horizon Records. In the mid-70s he was singer/harmonica player for the Chicago Flying Saucer Band, which became the Mighty Flyers, a goodtime blues group very influential in California. The Mighty Flyers have continued recording and touring into the new millennium with Piazza joined by a number of different musicians, including his keyboard-playing wife Honey Alexander. The couple’s long-term successful marriage/musical partnership is one that has clearly passed the test. Piazza has also recorded solo albums in order to showcase his harder blues approach. Additionally, he has recorded on numerous sessions, from Jimmy Rogers and ‘Big’ Joe Turner to Michelle Shocked.
