Ron Cartel was born and raised by Italian immigrant parents in the musical melting pot that is Harlem, New York City. Surrounded from an early age by such a rich mix of musical influences from Rhythm and Blues, Soul, to Jazz, Blues and Gospel, it’s hardly a surprise that music and performance is in Ron’s bones. Indeed, his first public performance, whilst still at school, was at the Metropole Cafe in Manhattan with the legendary Gene Krupa.

After starting to sing professionally whilst still in his teens, Ron spent the following almost four decades working with some of America’s top artists in some of the country’s most iconic musical locations - NYC, California and New Orleans. Looking down the list of bands and musicians that Ron has worked with during his years in the States is like a who’s who of the blues, soul and jazz scenes; artists like John Tropea, Sonny Sharrock, Bernard Purdie, Steve Gadd, Matt Guitar Murphy (Blues Brothers Movie), Dr John, The Tower of Power Horns, The Blues Brothers, … the list goes on.

In 2001 Ron moved to Europe and brought with him his years of experience, love and passion for American roots music and he continues to record his original compositions and tours extensively.

Now based in Switzerland with an all-new band and album “I Hurt Everybody”, Ron continues to find inspiration in the music that has surrounded him since those early days in Harlem. We’ll leave Ron with the last word.

“I’ve been singing Roots music all my life with some of the best musicians from the USA and Europe and can’t wait to continue with this new adventure…. Remember it’s not who you know, its who you stay away from!”
