Brazen Angel is likely to confuse you a bit at times. The band is firmly rooted in melodic metal a la Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, and European melodic power metal bands. However, there is a clever twist in many of the songs that clearly put the bands southern roots proudly on display. No two songs on Confederate Soldier sound anything alike and in some fashion are in self-defining genres. Depending on your perspective, that's either a fantastic strength or a weakness of editing willpower. This is NOT an album that is justified with a listen to just one song. There are thrash elements in Death Row, melodic dark metal in Angel Demon, southern inspired Prog (is that a thing?) in Confederate Soldier, some Dio/Bullet For My Valentine (is THAT a thing?) worship in Seance of the Slave, straight up melodic sugar metal on Back To You, 80's Power ballad on Southbound Train, and a bizarre metal cover of Eastbound and Down. There truly is something for everyone on this very diverse CD.
