Review from RateYourMusic:
What an influential record this has been, in a really wide ranging sense. From Bowie and Eno through post punk and then on to avant garde pop it's probably the most widely sourced krautrock album.
The record guides you in with the opening 10 minute motorik groove of "Hallogallo" which has been well copied through the years before you encounter "Sonderangebot" which unsettles with its tense, metallic ambience. "Weißensee" actually sounds like a slow crazy horse type beat which eases the record forward again. "Im Glück" and the closing "Lieber Honig" are both atmospheric pieces, the former ambient and soothing the latter eerie and sparse and featuring gentle half sung vocals and guitar – quite reminiscent of fellow countrymen Can.
Which leaves the nerve shredding "Negativland" which returns to the motorik beat but features some of the most intense guitar playing I've ever encountered coupled with its tempo changes and brutal edits. It's clear that joy division and PIL owed a lot to this group from this track alone, but what's even more striking is how fresh it sounds today, it feels bang up to date much more so than the more name-checked Can for instance.
Fascinating record.
