Inspired in early youth by the likes of Elvis and Patsy Cline & later discovering artists like Janis Joplin, Etta James and Tina Turner she began to work on original material. A first place pop solo award (for an original composition) from the American Guild Of Music in 1991 inspired her to continue writing.
In 1994 her band was nominated for three "Motor City Music Awards" in the Blues category and won two of them. "Band Deserving Wider Recognition" and a compilation album called "Live At Lou's" which featured her original work "Phone Call" as the first cut won "Album Of The Year."
Her extensive performances in Michigan's finest venues and musical attractions seen her billed with national acts such as "Koko Taylor", "Larry McCray", "War", "Eddie Money", "Jeff Healy", "Roomful of Blues" and many more. Former guitar player, "Robert Noll" of "Albert Collins and The Ice Breakers" invited her to sing on his latest CD "Happy Bluesday"). In 1997 Nikki made a guest appearance with "Lonnie Brooks" at the Mid Michigan Blues Fest in Fenton, MI.
Nikki James being one hot commodity for Rockin' Blues Guitar Players has appeared as a special vocal guest on Randy Volins "Wakin' Up With Wood" 1998, Robert Noll's "Happy Bluesday" 1997 and Pat Savages "Made In Detroit" 1999. You can also find some of Nikki's other recordings on "Live At Lou's" Compilation Album1993 (Benefit for the Autism Society) and "Detroit Uncut" (Venture Records) 1998 (Benefit for Henry Ford Community College Mucic Department.)
Nikki's first recordings are being played on local radio stations as well as her new for 2000 CD, "CLEANIN' HOUSE" (FGR, Fat Girl Records) Joanne Korcznska from WHFR Dearborn states "I need more of your material" and "Paz Man" WCSX Detroit "can't wait for your new product."
