Kent's quest to anthologise the classic Southern soul of Northern Alabama continues this month with the release of a third volume in their Hall Of Fame Series. When Ace began copying the contents of FAME studios tape vaults in Muscle Shoals, they never dreamed they would find such a vast quantity of unissued material of such high quality. They're still researching and finding great music among the hundreds of transfers they've made, and Hall of Fame Volume 3 is graced by several recent important finds. In addition to George Jackson, Phillip Mitchell, Clarence Carter and Otis Clay, they also feature another selection of unknowns invariably as 'great' as they are 'unknown', backed by some of the finest musicians of Southern soul's golden era. Of the 24 tracks featured, only four have been released before. Series compiler Tony Rounce believes it's the best volume to date. There's still plenty more to come from FAME's vaults in 2014.
