Since the ’80s, Patty Larkin has been one of the leading lights on the American Contemporary Folk scene, a gifted guitarist who is also an insightful songwriter and distinctive vocalist.
Larkin‘s 11th studio album, Still Green, reveals she hasn’t lost her touch, and features 12 new songs that feature her witty but heartfelt take on life, love, and the world in which we live, as well as Larkin‘s typically deft guitar work and sympathetic accompaniment from her studio band. Still Green also features guest appearances from Jonatha Brooke, Merrie Amsterburg, and the vocal group Birdsong at Morning.
A time Larkin lost both her parents — the father, a Catholic Buddhist, and the mother, an artist, both were close inspirations — and witnessed her sister, a jazz pianist, suffers a stroke after surgery. So, naturally, the songs focus on Larkins’ search for relief and solace and recharge her trust in love, family and nature. Most of the songs were written in a remote, primitive shack on the Outer Banks of Cape Cod’s National Seashore, and this beautiful, innocent scene contributed to the fresh approach to sound.

The nuanced and delicate arrangements encompass Larkins’ emotional delivery and balance it with her exquisite guitar playing, which is much more reserved here than on her previous albums, most notably 25 (2010), that celebrated her career with bare arrangements based on her guitar playing.
