It’s not the first time that the good guys at Rock Candy Records decide to re-issue albums from that long forgotten decade: the 70s, known for its many acts in the blues, psychedelic, hard and progressive rock genres. Lone Star was a Welsh band that brought us a mix of hard rock and progressive rock. They recorded and released two studio albums and both have just been rereleased by Rock Candy, provided with a fresh 24-bit remastering. “Lone Star”, originally produced by Roy Thomas Baker and released through Epic in August 1976, surprised friend and foe with its bombastic sound. Lead vocalist on that platter was Kenny Driscoll. The album peaked at # 47 on the UK Album Charts and contained such tracks as the single “She Said, She Said”, “Flying In The Reel” and “Illusions”. Besides the 7 original songs, this re-issue adds no less than 5 bonus tracks, all being previously unreleased BBC sessions and of a real good quality. Although a rosy future was lying ahead of the band, Driscoll left the fold after the release of the self-titled debut, but a replacement was quickly found with the arrival of fellow Welshman John Sloman. A good move as the band became even more ambitious and delivered an even better album than the first. Produced by Gary Lyons and originally released exactly one year after the debut, “Firing On All Six” peaked at # 36 on the UK Album Charts, featuring such tracks as “The Ballad Of Crafty Jack”, “Hypnotic Mover” and “Seasons In Your Eyes”. Next to the original 8 songs, this re-issue also features 3 previously unreleased bonus tracks, at the time recorded by the BBC. David Cockett wrote the liner notes for both re-issues and did a magnificent job.
