Having cut his teeth musically in 90′s alt-rock group Strangelove, Patrick Duff went on a hiatus from the music world before emerging as an intriguing artist and singer.
Following several projects involving the cream of Bristolian music, (Massive Attack, Portishead etc.) Duff’s “Visions Of The Underworld” is a straightforward, heart-breaking folk record recorded deep in a forest cabin. Recorded straight to tape with no overdubs or editing, the 10 songs here highlight Duff’s direct song-writing prowess and a heartfelt, honest performance. Patrick Duff was born in Bristol to an Irish Father and a Welsh Mother. After dropping out of school and spending time as a street busker, he became lead singer of the alternative rock band Strangelove, who were signed to Food, Parlophone/EMI. The band released three critically-acclaimed albums between 1991 and 1998.
As a solo artist Patrick toured with WOMAD Festival, collaborating most notably with the then 81-year-old veteran African master storyteller and musician Madosini, with whom he lived and worked in the township of Langa, in Capetown, South Africa.
Patrick released his first solo album Luxury Problems on EMI’s legendary Harvest label – once home to his childhood hero Syd Barrett – in June 2005.
Patrick’s second solo album, The Mad Straight Road was released in January 2010. A collection of 12 songs which he describes as “a synthesis of some of the music that has shaped my life – stuff like Disney soundtracks, the Beatles, the Kinks, Bob Dylan, Nick Cave and Johnny Cash – it all went right into the heart of me and came back sounding like this.” Patrick has extensively toured the world in support of The Mad Straight Road.
